SERVICE

I am active in academic service. I a member of the American Sociological Association, Association for Asian Studies, Association of Asian American Studies, European Association for Southeast Asian Studies, and International Studies Association, where I have organized sessions and panels and served in advisory boards and committees. I am also an occasional article reviewer for American Sociological Review; Diaspora Studies; Journal of Social Development Studies (Indonesia); Journal of Ethnic and Migration StudiesJournal of World-Systems ResearchLatin American Research Review; MobilizationThe Pacific Review; Philippine Political Science JournalResearch in Social Movements, Conflict, and Change; and Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais. I was a contributing editor for Mobilizing Ideas, a project of the Center for the Study of Social Movements in the University of Notre Dame. 

At Grinnell College, aside from advising and mentoring students in sociology, I have provided guidance to students conducting research on transnational migration and Asian American activism. I currently serve at the Faculty Organization Committee and Institutional Review Board. I was selected as Faculty Commencement Speaker by the 2020 graduation class.
